Mountain Safety Guidelines

1. Your Responsibility Code

1. Always stay in control. You must be able to stop or avoid people or objects.
2. People ahead or downhill have the right-of-way. You must avoid them.
3. Stop only where you are visible from above and do not restrict traffic.
4. Look uphill and avoid others before starting downhill or entering a trail.
5. You must prevent runaway equipment.
6. Read and obey all signs, warnings, and hazard markings.
7. Keep off closed trails and out of closed areas.
8. You must know how and be able to load, ride and unload lifts safely. If you need assistance, ask the lift attendant.
9. Do not use lifts or terrain when impaired by alcohol or drugs.
10. If you are involved in a collision or incident, share your contact information with each other and a ski area employee.

• As a visitor here, you will encounter a rugged, ever-changing and at times severe mountain environment. YOUR SAFETY IS NOT GUARANTEED.
• For your own safety and the safety of others, it is YOUR RESPONSIBILITY to USE GOOD JUDGEMENT and BE SAFETY CONSCIOUS AT ALL TIMES, to RESPECT ALL WARNING SIGNS and USE COMMON SENSE AND ACT RESPONSIBLY and ADHERE TO POLICIES AND GUIDELINES while at Mt. Baker Ski Area.

3. WASHINGTON STATE LAW STANDARD OF CONDUCT

as per RCW 79A. 45 et. seq. This is a partial list.

(3) Every person shall MAINTAIN CONTROL of his or her speed and course at all times, and shall STAY CLEAR OF ANY SNOWGROOMING EQUIPMENT, ANY VEHICLE, ANY LIFT TOWER, AND ANY OTHER EQUIPMENT ON THE MOUNTAIN.

(4) A PERSON SHALL BE THE SOLE JUDGE OF HIS OR HER ABILITY to negotiate any trail.

(6) The primary duty shall be on THE PERSON SKIING DOWNHILL TO AVOID ANY COLLISION WITH ANY PERSON OR OBJECT BELOW HIM OR HER.

(8) ANY PERSON SHALL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY COLLISION whether the collision is with another person or with an object.
